WHY AM I DOING THIS? ROUND #2
I’m back with the intention to get on track with the story-writing part of my stewardship here and the first step is to document the chronology of what has and has NOT happened since 2017, my home’s 100th birthday that inspired the compilation of the binders of This Is Your Life – The Surgeon’s House. Here goes a chronology as a foundation based on today:
7/31/1992 – My first look at TSH
9/5/1992 – I closed on TSH
9/2019 – My 27th anniversary of owning The Surgeon’s House & resurfacing of the need to recall stories and create the Stories – The Walls are Talking Now
12/2019 – I became the reluctant blog writer for TSH website
Sometime?/early 2021 – Stopped writing stories for the binder
10/2023 – I began to wonder why I hadn’t written anymore stories . . . had things gotten dull around here?
3/2024 – Good God and Geez Louise I am beginning an introduction for Vol. #3 of Stories – The Walls are Talking Now
5/23/2024 – TSH 107th birthday
9/5/2024 – My 32nd year at TSH
I am first to admit that I don’t get the award for swift action taken on this score but better now than never. I was most stymied by the duration of my hiatus from writing. I honestly wondered if nothing funny or note-worthy had happened and yet somehow that didn’t add up. Then, eureka! It came to me. There is a direct correlation between my starting to write the blog posts and the cessation of my writing stories for the binder. Somehow I was filling my need and desire to document but on a different platform. So, Vicki and I reviewed the blog postings as fodder for undocumented, worthy stories. I was tremendously relieved that we concluded that life at TSH had indeed NOT gotten boring and unremarkable. I just got careless and perhaps distracted.
I asked myself, “What do we laugh at all the time here?” “What are the stories I tell most frequently in case they haven’t been captured?” Then my traditional mind dump began. So, we are launching Volume #3 of the Stories binder with a handful of Monday Morning quarterbacking new wrinkles. Each story will be dated by month and year as to when it was written since we can’t possibly place them sequentially after nearly 5 years. Each binder will have a Table of Contents in no particular order as these are stand-alone vignettes of laughing, crying, or incredulity. NO names will be changed to protect the innocent or anyone else – ha!
With pencil to paper and pictures snapped and published, I am truly on the hook now so let the fun memory floodgates pour open.
