. . . AND IT ALL COMES A’ TUMBLIN’ DOWN . . .

The recent rains and high winds finally spelled the imminent demise of the lattice patio cover outside the Chauffeur’s Quarters patio doors. We quickly determined that a complete demo and different construction would serve us better. Here is the before status.

And in typical Miss P planning fashion, a complete replant with shade-loving plants will immediately follow the rebuild.

But first, the catharsis of demolition, finding that Randy the wisteria was FAR more expansive than he appeared and that the grape vine heading to the balcony was dead. What a mess.

Next we began with a clean palate, saving just a few of the good pieces and opening up the entire space. We expect to see a real change in the grass on that patio with the entrance of more sunshine.

In record time, Joshua re-created a beautiful and nearly invisible pergola to host the wisteria. It nearly looks like we enlarged the patio!  We did indeed raise the height for the benefit and comfort of our taller-than-right-sized guests.

Let the planting begin!!

And voila! All refraiched and expansive feeling. We have to think a bit long-term as the ground covers will take at least one or two seasons to really begin to spread and cover. For now, the infancy is promising.
