HAVE WE BEEN BANKSIED?

Something like nearly 20 years ago we were surprised by the appearance of what technically qualified as graffiti at The Surgeon’s House in the cubbyhole doorway under the staircase leading to the site of the Perry Ling. Our upper garden and larger pond are located on the remnants of that house’s foundation but let me show you the location as a point of reference.

The image itself is in the style and stencil technique of the famous English street artist, Banksy.

This hidden mysterious treasure has resurfaced recently in my consciousness and we have documented this incredible saga in a story entitled Have We Been Banksied? included in Vol. 3 of the binder Stories: The Walls are Talking Now! For the full scoop, read all about it on your next visit but for now I want to catch you up on our recent attempts to protect and preserve our little girl.

The Capt. and I took a tentative and mindfully gentle approach beginning with plain water, then a slopping rag soaked in a solution of Dawn dish detergent and warm water. We were tremendously elated at the positive improvement in results as she sprang back to vibrancy and life.

What a magical piece of the enfolding sea of creativity and delight we enjoy. We are continuing our research into the question of applying a protective coating of lacquer, two-part epoxy, or other similar. Please contact us 928-639-1452 if you have any formative suggestions.

We are not likely to pursue authentication because Banksy or Banksy-wanna’ be is irrelevant to our priority to protect and preserve what is now a beloved part of The Surgeon’s House.
