LAND HO!
Is it even possible that a person could literally LIVE WITH anything for nearly 23 years and only just recognize a new aspect? Well, I can tell you I experienced that very thing. While admiring and reviewing yesterday’s progress which constituted about 20 days into the project with 90% done not counting application of the topcoats, a pattern just leapt off the surface to me – duuuhhh! The Capt. was explaining that he was paying close attention to the straight lines and larger boxes of squares that serve as the platform for the marvelous swirls. Suddenly I could see that essentially, it appears, Kim created a very linear design on her graph paper grid, at an angle thus allowing for the triangles, and then superimposed the swirls design of the 1”x1” squares! How could that complexity of the overall creation have eluded me all this time? Capt. Allen’s immersion in the intricacy of this restoration caused him to immediately notice and commit to lining up the lines of the larger square & triangle boxes. Wow . . . but once you see it, the intent is obvious. Thanks, Kim, for the 23 yr. old surprise. Do you see it?
At this stage in this restoration, we have entered a new phase of tackling areas of nearly utter destruction where once again we are down to raw concrete. This time in a much larger surface area which requires significant priming before re-painting.
The Capt. was once again driven from further progress today by the persistent winds so we shall see what tomorrow brings.
You can see what our QC Inspector thinks of the delays when we are so close to finishing.
