AND OFF WE GO . . . FAUX REDUX

As with all creative projects and endeavors, notions and paths shift as things come together. As fate would have it, the original artist involved in this redux project is no longer available to us so Praise Be the ‘Capt.’ stepped up to the plate – yea! Many of you aren’t aware that he is quite the accomplished sketch artist and painter having worked in numerous mediums so the steady-handedness and detailed work that is the crux of this redux is firmly in his wheelhouse. He began with an in-depth examination of the mosaic surface followed by an equally in-depth conversation with Kim Smerek, the creator of this classic.

Next a supplies run and the initial surface prep work of scraping where the deteriorated former sealer was flaking off. Where that deterioration had penetrated the painted pattern and down to the cement, he then applied Bulls Eye 1-2-3 concrete primer to prepare the surface for new paint.

Next, brush went to palate as the Capt. gets his groove and operation in place insofar as how the surface is responding.

Latte Papa stealthily pitched right in (undercover) as his ever-vigilant QC Inspector.

The initial 2 days went more smoothly and rapidly than imagined so we may scream right through the re-paint given the weather supports us. We have decided the addition of the new design elements is best left until the original is completed since I know I had actually forgotten how dazzling and brilliant the colours were when it was new 23+ years ago. This will completely revitalize our front porch and entrance way . . . soooooooo exciting as this creation draws breath again.
