CAULKING THE CRACKS . . . BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
As we endure what we hope are the last of the long hot summer we have redoubled our endeavors on the all-out window rehabilitation. Joshua had little to do on the back atrium window so we are pleased to report that one is completed. We have elected NOT to replace the ropes and weights as it would require demolishing the window entirely which runs the risk of permanently damaging/destroying essential elements and then having to rebuild. Hence, you see our virtual ‘prop’ during the times we want that window open.
The garage window at the top of the stairs was in a shambles. Upon real investigation, Joshua determined that the lower half was not salvageable and the thought of building anew was a little daunting. Then he remembered that we had stored some old windows in the garage attic and sure enough, we found a perfect match.
We set smartly about to remove the old one and install the ‘old new one’. Repainting began and we intend to leave it as our Laugh In Look Alike window that I abruptly pop my head through and peer, in attempts to locate helpers in the garage – ha.
Not to be outdone on the ongoing maintenance front, the erstwhile Capt. launched a gate painting project. Here is a sort-of before-and-after. One of the happy lessons of life that we seem to continue to learn is, ‘don’t trust the paint label when it says it dries in 2 hours . . .’
The next gate to be refreshed will be the one at the dining room stairway which isn’t in such need since it doesn’t endure much direct sunshine. The front porch gate has been taken off even the consideration list as it would require repainting the entire fence – not in this chick’s lifetime and even if it was, how would we move the entwined parts of gramma?
