APRIL HAPPENINGS

Our fervent expectations notwithstanding, the Youngster over the upper pond again wasn’t in the mood to bloom prolifically this year although against the backdrop of the resplendent Lady Banks and her arbor, the cherry tree, the colors painted a complimentary juxtaposition of colors against a cornflower blue sky.

The Grand Old Gramma over the front porch and draping to the Master Suite balcony surprised the snickers out of us this month by surviving what in the past two years has been a late cold snap. I had given up when suddenly in less than 48 hours she decided to burst into bloom rather than drop the buds. The timing was perfect as 24 hours following her debut, sustained gusty winds descended on us so we had to enjoy her splendor quickly.

Inspired to ‘try try again’ and with learned suggestions from landscape designer guests, the Petersons, we ordered and replanted YET AGAIN AND WITH HIGH HOPES, the garden between the backdoor and the Chauffeur’s quarters. It is dicey to find perennial species that thrive in both shade and short bouts of intense afternoon sun. We are watching these new kindergarteners closely to nurture their success.

Last year’s efforts of planting some new spring delights gifted us with new tulip friends of the parrot and exotic varieties.

SPRING! REGENERATING SPRING! – what a season of renewal and promise! Please visit us to experience these wonders for yourself.
