JANUARY CATCHING UP
Just a quickie to show Alexis and Khristyanna during our blessed UNDECORATING effort which you can imagine is actually more daunting than the decorating!
I am flummoxed to report that once again we are repairing the front porch landing! What the Hector?!? A few months ago the Earth Mother ‘rolled over’ just a little (meaning there was some small level of seismic movement) as evidenced by subtle but noticeable shifts like the frig door began not wanting to close and then automatically swinging open . . . the Powder Room door automatically closed when opened . . . the front door has the slightest bigger crack between it and the door frame . . . the Maid’s Suite Back door refused to close at all and if it did, then refused to open(?) . . . a 1/8th” separation in the kitchen countertop molding from the wall . . . and a minor but infinitely annoying propensity of my desk chair to slide towards the front and right away from my desk! AND AND AND the scary closet began leaking YET AGAIN due to a significant new crack in the landing. Drat and double drat!
Earth moves in even flat-as-a-pancake-Kansas and clearly something shifted for our nearly 109-yr. old girl. So, we sprang into action immediately with chipping away old, filling with expandable concrete, laying mesh, and then a new layer of quick crete followed by a complete repainting.
While the paint is at the ready and the weather holds, we shall patch and repaint the front porch as well. Whew, will this ever be the really last time?
And so it goes in the world of home maintenance.
